Vocational Training for Trinco Youth

by Anjana Gamage

Young people in the Trincomalee district who were denied vocational training for several years due to the war will soon be able to undergo training as well as tertiary education under the North and East re-settlement programme, the Sunday Observer learns.

The Minister of Tertiary Education and Training Kabir Hashim recently visited Trincomalee to upgrade educational facilities and locate places for vocational training with special emphasis on courses such as repairing of motorcycles, electronic appliances masonry waterpump fixing and computer conducted by the Vocational Training Authority (VTA), National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and Technical Colleges.

After completing the courses, it would help youth to obtain jobs in their respective fields. This was why the minister has decided to initiate vocational training centres in Muttur, Kinniya, Trincomalee and Kantale areas as soon as possible.

Besides these, air-conditioning and automobile engineering courses will also be conducted at the Technical College from next year, the Minister said.
