Nishan and Premila win best performance awards : Gampaha District emerge inter-district champs

Gampaha District with 150 points emerged champions in the inter-district track and field meet of the Western Province (Gampaha, Colombo and Kalutara) in Kalutara.

While Gampaha emerged winners, Colombo came second with 118 points and Kalutara were placed third with 62 points.

The best performance for men was won by Nishan Kumara of Colombo who won the triple jump for men with a distance of 15.5 metres, while the best performance award for women was won by Premila Priyadarshani also of Colombo District with a timing of 58.7 seconds in the 400 metres for women.

There were three records at the meet - a new mark by Anne Maheshi Silva of Gampaha with a winning distance of 53.65 metres in the Javelin Throw for women, then in the 400 metres hurdles for women Biyanka Welpahala of Colombo District 'clocked' 66.1 seconds while among the men, T. F. Alail of Colombo won with a throw of 49.02 metres in the Discus Throw to establish the third record.

The chief guest at the meet was Sports Minister of Western Provincial Council Sunil Jayamini.
