Preliminary meets ahead of Outstation Swimming C'ships

by Leslie Fernando

National Amateur Aquatic Sports Union (NAASU) has made plans to hold preliminary outstation swimming meets in four venues in preparation for the annual Outstation Swimming Championships to be staged from November 23-24 at the SSC swimming pool.

The first meet will be held on September 21 at Polhena swimming pool, Matara, the second on October 5 at Nuwarawewa Rest House swimming pool in Polonnaruwa, the third on October 26 at Kurunegala swimming pool and the fourth on November 9 at the main river in Ambalangoda.

Fifty six events for both boys and girls will be worked off and the first placed winners both boys and girls will be eligible to swim at the annual Outstation Swimming Championships.

According to H. H. Chulasiri, Aquatic Development Controller, NAASU, swimmers from remote schools will be able to show their prowess at these meets and NAASU will be able to pick the hidden talents from amongst the rural swimmers.

In addition to the preliminary outstation meets there will be Swimming Development Camps in Galle, Kelaniya, Gampaha, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala.
