Uva teas attract top prices

Uva teas attracted top prices at the Ex-Estate tea auctions held recently with Uva Highlands Estate once again leading the race by obtaining Rs. 600 per kilogramme for a line of Uva Pekoe, and this tea was sold through John Keells Limited. But the price was nowwhere near last week's record price of Rs. 4,010 per kilogramme of the same grade of tea by the same estate owned by Malwatte Valley Plantations Limited.

Uva Highlands Estate also obtained the top price of Rs. 350 for the week for a line of Uva BOP but the Neluwa Estate, Bandarawela got the top price of Rs. 330 per kilogramme of Uva BOPF.

Kirkoswald Group, Bogowantalawa topped the prices for all three grades of tea for Western High Grown by fetching Rs. 236 for BOP, Rs. 230 for BOPF, Rs. 340 for Pekoe and also Dust 1 Rs. 221. These teas were all sold through Forbes & Walkers Limited.
