Police suspect inside job at Methodist Church Kollupitiya Police investigating into the theft of cash from the Methodist Church Headquarters at Kollupitiya said although several persons have been questioned, no one have been taken into custody so far. The Police are in a quandary as to how several hundred thousands of rupees could be removed without the safe being forcibly opened. "There were no visible marks to suggest that it happened that way," Police told the 'Sunday Observer'. Meanwhile, the Police finger prints experts who visited the Methodist Church had not found any prints on the safe. However, Police suspect the theft may have been committed by someone who had access to the duplicate keys which were in the office. "This could probably be an inside job," Police said. The safe was opened while the church officials were away in Kalmunai attending a seminar, a fortnight ago. The theft had occurred between August 29 and October 2 . Police said they have no idea how much of money was stolen from the safe. The theft was reported to the Kollupitiya Police by an official of the Methodist Church. OIC Kollupitiya Chief Inspector A. Panamaldeniya and OIC (Crimes) Inspector Duminda Silva are investigating. J. J |
