Miss Tourism International World Finals 2002 :

Russia and Ukrain bag mini titles

The first taste the world beauties had of Southern Sri Lanka was also tinged with the sweet tang of victory for no less than a dozen of them.


Miss Beautiful, Russia and Miss Kani Lanka, Ukraine. From extreme left, Miss Kani Lanka first runner-up Miss Poland and second runner-up Miss Austria. From extreme right, fourth runner-up, Miss Bulgaria and third runner-up, Miss Germany.

At Taj Exotica, Bentota, the exotic looks of Miss Ukraine, Oleksandra Nikolayenko, won her the mini-title 'Miss Photogenic' while at Kani Lanka Resort and Spa (previously named Hotel Sinbad) the stunning beauty from Russia, Anna Salamatina, swept away the mini-title 'Miss Beautiful'.

'Miss Taj Exotica' was Miss Tadzhikistan, Marina Jauravliva, with Miss Russia as the first runner-up and Miss Denmark, Marlene Tellef, as the second runner-up. 'Miss Kani Lanka' became Miss Ukraine's second crown for the night, with four runners-up : Miss Poland, Kamila Rastenska, the first; Miss Austria, Sandra Muller, the second; Miss Germany, Sandra Herbst, the third and Miss Bulgaria, Boianna Dimitrova, the fourth. Kani Lanka also presented Merit Awards to Miss Germany, Miss Finland, Johanna Heikkila, and Miss Slovakia Republic, Janka Kusovska.

The sixth mini-pageant, 'Miss Rising Star,' took place on September 26, at Ratnaloka Tour Inns, Ratnapura, followed next day by the seventh, Miss Peace, at Hotel Golden Sun, Kalutara.

On October 2, just two days ahead of the World Finals, Trans Asia Hotel of Colombo will host the last of the "minis", Miss Talent. From then, all eyes will be riveted to the BMICH where the eagerly-awaited glamour Finals is scheduled to hit its ritzy ramps on October 4.

The principal sponsors of Miss Tourism International are SriLankan Airlines, Independent Television Network and Jet Asia of Jetwing Group, with Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. as the official print media. Supporting sponsors are Anchor Shape-Up, Renelle Gems and Jewellery (Pvt) Ltd., Janet Group of Cosmetics, Lanka Internet, Arena, Robialac Paints, Abans, Three Coins Beer, Salon Gladys and Russell's Tea. Co-Sponsors are DSI Exclusive, Rajabdeen and Sons, Mount Royal Group and Eco-Gallery.

The partners of Eco-Gallery, Bhakthi Panditharatne and Kumudini Rajapaksha are the official dress designers to the World Pageant, with Jonathans of Havelock Road as the official photographer and Sterling Flowers as the official florist.

Softpro is in charge of computerisation and the official trophies come from Furnifits.

The world contestants were flown in by SriLankan Airlines.
