City police brace for ICC Final by ANTON NONIS Colombo City Traffic Police anticipating thousands of vehicles to come through Colombo to watch the Sri Lanka-India ICC final at the Kettarama Stadium today, have planned for traffic arrangement in and around the stadium, according to Deputy Inspector General(Traffic), Daya Jayasundera. The match is scheduled to start at 2.30 p.m under lights. DIG Jayasundera said that a police contingent of over 700 policemen will be on duty directing traffic long before the start. The City Traffic Police have found that large numbers of vehicles have been converging on Colombo from last Friday onwards. According to IP Asela Perera of the City Traffic, over 3000 vehicles were recorded on Friday alone. Yesterday the number was much higher, he said. The police strength on traffic duty have been drawn from stations in the suburbs and from Galle, Kandy and Kurunegala. Apart from the manpower, five patrol cars will be placed to do continuous patrolling on all roads leading to Kettarama. |
