Thushari and Ayodhya for Chess Olympiad

Thushari Mahawatte and Ayodhya Liyanagedara of St. Joseph's Balika Maha Vidyalaya will leave for Slovenia to participate in the 35th Chess Olympiad 2002, from 25th October to 10th November.

Thushari Mahawatte has already participated in number of national and international chess tournaments and has been awarded the Best Woman Player award twice. She has also participated in the National School Games from 1998 to 2001 and has impressed. She participated in the Asian Chess Championship (under 18) in India in 2002 and qualified to represent Sri Lanka at the World Youth Championship in Spain in 2000.

Ayodhya Liyanagedara also participated in National School Games in 2000, 2002, age group chess tournament organised by Queenstar International Chess Coaching Academy and became champion and had some minor places too.

Both girls spoke highly of the trouble taken by Mr. R. C. Dassanayake who has coached them.
