Sri Lanka Youth team leaves for Asian Netball tourney

Twelve-member Sri Lanka youth netball team left yesterday to defend the title at the third Asian Youth Netball Championships (under-21) to be held in Malaysia from October 1 to 8.

N. G. Punchihewa, Secretary Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports said that the Sports Ministry have provided all facilities for the tour including air tickets. Teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Maldives, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan will play in the championships according to a member of the Interim Committee of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka team: Indu Bandara (Ceylinco), Shashika Samarasinghe (HNB), Gishanthi Jayakody (Visakha), Maboja Ranchigoda (HNB), Manojika Priyadarshani (SLPA), Shani Nisansala (Bomiriya National School), Dhammika Malkanthi (SL Air Force), Anjali Lokuliyana (CDNA), Menaka Thalagalarachchi (St. Joseph's Nugegoda), Thaloja Perera (CDNA), Nilanka Dilushi (Police), Anoma Sanjeewani (Unattached).

Surangani Wijendra a senior manager at HNB, a former double international netball and athletics, will be the manageress of the team while Asoka Manchanayaka, Sports Officer Education Dept. will be the deputy. Sakunthala Wijetunga of Kurunegala DNA will be the coach.
