Alexis Bledel
The darling Gilmore

As 'Gilmore Girls' (telecast every Saturday on ETV) firmly establishes itself as a must-watch family event, with every new episode eagerly awaited by both teens and adults, we take an up close and personal look at Alexis Bledel, who plays the role of Rory Gilmore

Although newcomer Alexis Bledel made her television debut in 'Gilmore Girls', the Houston, Texas native had already spent years in front of the camera as a model. Bledel will soon be seen in her feature film debut, 'Tuck Everlasting', in which she plays the leading role of Winnie Foster opposite William Hurt, Sissy Spacek and Ben Kingsley.

Bledel's parents encouraged her to try community theatre in Houston when she was 8 years old. She went on to perform in productions of 'Our Town', 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'Aladdin', and later was scouted in a local mall to model.

She began her modelling career while still in high school, travelling the world to locations such as Tokyo, Milan, New York and Los Angeles. After graduating, she enrolled at NYU, where she completed her first year as a film major. Bledel landed a manager through her modelling agency and headed to Los Angeles for her first pilot season, where she landed the coveted role of Rory.

For her work on Gilmore Girls, Bledel was honoured with the 2002 Family Friendly Forum Award for Best Actress in a Drama, She was also nominated as Best Actress in a Drama by the Teen Choice Awards in 2002.

When she's not working, Bledel enjoys writing, reading, shooting photography, going to the movies and spending time with her family.
