"Cultures in harmony"

They performed for the benefit of the children in the South and also of the North. Spouses and children of Colombo based diplomats walked on the cat-walk to the rhythm of traditional music of their respective countries.

The spouses of members of the Diplomatic Corps and the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly organised the event. The proceeds will finance a portable ultra sound scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital, Colombo and equipment for ARK Home for Children with special needs, Chunnakam, Jaffna.

The different diplomatic missions presented their traditional costumes and distinctive music in 'Cultures in Harmony.' Each of the costumes were modelled by members of the High Commissions and Embassies including Heads of Missions and their spouses. The Foreign Ministry Seva Vanitha members also presented local costumes including bridal wear designed with local Beeralu lace and material by well-known designer Yolande Aluwihare.

The countries were Australia, Bhutan, China, France, Finland, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Thailand and the US. The members of UN organisations based in Sri Lanka and their spouses also participated presenting costumes from countries not represented by Diplomatic Missions based in Colombo.
