US human rights envoy due here Michael E. Parmly, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labour, will be in Colombo this week. While in Sri Lanka, Mr. Parmly will meet with Attorney-General K.C. Kamalasabeyson and Foreign Secretary Nihal Rodrigo. During his consultations with Sri Lankan government officials, Mr. Parmly will discuss multilateral human rights issues arising from Sri Lanka's role as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Commission. They will also continue a bilateral human rights dialogue that the United States and Sri Lanka have pursued in recent years. |
