'Thomian Star Parade' at BMICH on Nov.4 by Vimukthi Fernando The "Thomian Star Parade" organised by S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia, in aid of the establishment of a 'Language Resource Centre' for the welfare of its students will be held at the BMICH on November 4. The proposed language resource centre is estimated to cost about Rs. 2 million and it is expected to raise all or part of the funds required for the purpose. The organising committee chairman Udaya Gunaratne said that the centre would focus on teachers to enable them to implement the new educational reforms. "Fundamental to the entire reform programme is the education and training of our teachers for the implementation of the changes", he said. With the IT revolution, it has been planned to re-introduce English as a medium of instruction in the school and the language resource centre would assist this process by way of access to information on the web, current thinking on educational programs appearing in journals of learning institutions, reports on training programs and government circulars and bulletins; opportunities to develop IT skills and IT based self-education and infrastructure for other teacher based initiatives, such as translating of text books. Sohan and the X'periments will provide music at the parade with Vijaya Corea as the compere. Prominent singers, Ronnie Leich, Maxi Rosairo, Mariazelle Gunathilake, Anil Bharati, Nimal Jayamanna, Clifford Richards, Don Sherman, Shiraz (Rude Boy), Neson and Lelun (Percussion) and Ginger and Lulu are expected to feature in the show which promises top variety entertainment including popular songs in Sinhala, Tamil and English as well. |
