Ranapala Bodhinagoda Memorial Award for Literature on Cinema : Curtain goes up for Sarasaviya festival today Sarasaviya felicitation ceremony back on stage after lapse of four years. Today, October 13, at 6.00 pm, the 27th Sarasaviya felicitation ceremony will take place at the BMICH. At this glittering ceremony, for the first a trophy "Ranapala Bodhinagoda Memorial Award for Literature on Cinema" and cash award of Rs. 15,000 will be presented to a journalist prize winner or a writer on cinema literature, in recognition of his services to the cinema. Apart from this two outstanding artistes will receive two life-time achievement "Rana Mayura" awards along with Rs. 50,000 each for their contributions to the development of cinema industry. The best popular film, the best popular actor and actress will also be felicitated. Awards will be given to the best film, the best director, the best actor and the best actress who will receive Rs. 50,000 each. The best supporting actor, the actress and the best script writer will receive Rs. 25,000 each. The best cameraman, the best editor, the best music director and art director will receive Rs. 15,000 each. The best make-up artist, sound director, lyricist, the best male and female vocalists will receive Rs. 10,000 each. A jury consisting eminent personalities who are well versed in the field of cinema will announce the winners at the felicitation. The jury went through a set of 27 films, which were screened during the year 2001. While Rukantha Gunatilleke has been assigned with the task to act as music director at the ceremony, Kulasiri Budawatta will attend to the dancing recitals. Sangeetha Weeraratne will present a dance recital under Channa Wijewardene. Preparation of extracts and stage arrangements will be done by Ravindra Guruge. - WIRUMA |
