Appreciation : Chitra, you will always be remembered

At various stages of your life, someone enters to have a profound effect on you. I feel that every person whom I meet is a 'gift' and that everyone is extraordinary. It was the case with Chitra Weerasinghe.

I am sad that I could not attend her funeral. When I opened the Sunday paper at 5.00 pm her obituary was staring at my face and I was speechless. I could not believe what I was reading, but it was too late. Chitra's funeral took place that Sunday afternoon and I missed it. I could not say goodbye to her or see her for the last time.

I met Chitra when I was working in the hotel trade and she was loved by many hoteliers. She never said no to any of my invitations and made it a point to be well briefed before arriving at the function. Chitra never failed to advise me on various issues be it official or personal. She gave her honest opinion and was always open for constructive criticism.

She was a very versatile woman, an excellent journalist and a methodical worker. Her honesty, punctuality, understanding and dedication were sterling qualities a journalist could posses.

My family never knew Chitra but I had spoken so much about her that they came to know her well. She was very fond and devoted to her children who would miss her immensely.

Chitra my friend, my business friend is no more but her memory will linger. I remember her with great adoration and gratitude. In my own belief I wish she attains Nibbana.

Nadine Fernando
