Jaffna, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa combined teams impress at schools cricket sixes

Combined schools teams from the districts of Jaffna, Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa made a significant impact on day one at the Lemonade sponsored Old Wesleyite Schools 6-a-Side Cricket Tournament played at Wesley College grounds, Campbell Park yesterday.

A combined schools team from Jaffna beat Nalanda, the Batticaloa team beat Isipatana and Polonnaruwa team beat Wattala Antonians in their first round matches.

Royal College, the defending champions, lost to traditional rivals S. Thomas' in a second-round match as Thomian Arjuna Rajawasam (34) went on to get the top score for the day. Polonnaruwa district's Thiwanka Prabudha took 3 for 2 against St. Anthony's, Wattala to have the best bowling figures for the day.

The Jaffna team playing in their second round game lost to De Mazenod who received a bye being last years' runners-up. The team from Trincomalee conceded a walk-over to D. S. Senanayake.
