India's chess master Aaron thrilled with enthusiasm shown by youngsters

Manuel Aaron - India's first International Master and 9 times All-India chess champion, who is also the Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Chess Association, was the guest of the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre in Colombo recently.

The Indian chess maestro was in Sri Lanka on a three-day visit and had a busy schedule conducting several coaching camps in Colombo and Kandy and a special coaching camp for the best players in Sri Lanka who have been picked to represent Sri Lanka at the 35th World Chess Olympiad in Slovania. He was thrilled with the enthusiasm for chess in Sri Lanka especially by the youngsters.

There was also an Arbiters seminar at the Russian Centre in Colombo attended by arbiters from various parts of the country. Manuel Aaron was also the chief guest at the prize giving of the All-Island Age Group Chess Tournament (Western Province) and was pleased to see around 250 young players receiving their awards. This ceremony was held at Isipathana College.

The Indian chess maestro's stay in Sri Lanka was sponsored by Hotel Lanka Oberoi.
