Pakistan election results

ISLAMABAD, Saturday (Reuters) Pakistan's Election Commission had declared results of 266 parliamentary seats by 8 a.m. on Saturday (0300 GMT). Three out of 272 constituency seats will have to be contested again and a further three have yet to be declared.

Thursday's poll formally marked the transition from military to civilian rule in the country of 140 million people, although President Pervez Musharraf, who took over power in a bloodless coup in 1999, will continue to have a major political role.

Following are the unofficial results from constituency seats issued by the Pakistan Election Commission. There are 272 constituency seats in the national assembly, 60 seats set aside for women and 10 for non-Muslim minorities, making a total of 342.

- MMA - The Mutahidda Majlis-a-Amal, a hardline Islamic coalition of six religious parties opposed to Musharraf's backing of the U.S. military campaign in Afghanistan.

- MQM - The Muttahida National Movement, which has its power base in the sprawling cities of southern Sindh province.

- PML(N) - The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), headed by exiled former premier Nawaz Sharif. The PPP and PML(N) have vowed to join forces to oppose the president.

- PML(QA) - The Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam, widely seen as a pro-Musharraf party which enjoys strongest support in the key province of Punjab, Pakistan's most populous.

- PPP - The Pakistan People's Party of exiled former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, a fierce critic of Musharraf.
