Youth arrested over staged 'death' : Mother dies in shock by RAMANI KANGARAARACHCHI The mother of two youth from Kadugannawa, now in police custody over a staged death to claim insuarance , collapsed in shock and died on Friday on seeing her two handcuffed sons. The two young men were arrested after the Hingurakgoda Police found that the death of the elder son, Udayakantha Jayatilake, in the Habarana jungles in July, had been staged as part of an insuarance scam involving millions. The 57-year-old mother was a heart patient. The main accused Udayakantha Jayatilake who lived in the UK for 6 years returned to Sri Lanka on a vacation with his wife and brother, a few months back. It was declared that the youth Udayakantha was found burnt on July 3 in the Habarana jungles in the car in which he travelled after his money and belongings had been robbed. However, police investigations revealed that it was a contract killing, staged death, caused to claim an insuarance policy worth several millions of ruppees in the UK. The accused had confessed this to the police and that his brother was planning to proceed to UK to make the claim after obtaining the necessary documents. Two of the six arrested in this regard by the police were Udayakantha and his brother. After the death of the mother, Udayakantha's brother was bailed out from the courts since there was nobody at their home at Kadugannawa to organise the mother's funeral arrangements. The suspects will be produced before the courts next week. |
