Sarasaviya Film Festival : Purahanda Kaluwara wins the award for the best film Prasanna Vithanage's "Purahanda Kaluwara" was adjudged the best film and Mr. Bennet Ratnayake the best Director (Aswesuma) at the 27th Sarasaviya felicitation ceremony held last week at the BMICH. They received their awards from Dr. Lester James Peris.
At this glittering ceremony, veteran media personality Benedict Dodampegama was awarded the Ranapala Bodinagoda Memorial Trophy in recognition of his service to the cinema by Lake House Chairman Nalin Ladduwahetty. It was the first time that such a trophy was awarded at the 27-year Sarasaviya Film Festival. Mr. Dodampegama who worked at the Silumina Weekly joined the American Centre after leaving Lake House. Sangeetha Weeraratne who was named Most Popular Actress also was adjudged the Best Actress and Joe Abeywickrema received the Best Actor award. Ranjan Ramanayake received the Most Popular Actor award. Film personalities of yesteryear Vincent Vas and Mable Blythe received two lifetime achievement "Rana Mayura" awards for their contributions to the development of the cinema industry. At this award ceremony the best supporting actor, actress and the best script writer, best cameraman, best editor, best music director and art director, best make-up artist, sound director, lyricist, the best male and female vocalists also received their awards. |
