Sthri Music
First Ladies Of Song

Sthri Music a mega concert featuring top female stars in the Western and Oriental music industry will be staged at the Bishop's College Auditorium today November 3. This fabulous concert which is in aid of the Kidney Patients' Welfare Society is the brain child of Mariazelle Goonetilleke to coincide with ;International Women's Year'. Ms. Rosy Senanayake will be the chief guest.

Sthri Music promoted by Mariazelle is a fund raiser for the Kidney Patients' Welfare Society which is a registered social service organisation aiming to help the less-privileged suffering from critical renal and kidney ailments. The media sponsors are the Sunday Observer and Sarasaviya. Leading female names from the music galaxy, Dalreen Suby, Shyami and Yasmin Fonseka, Chandani Hettiarachchi, Drucille G and Priya Goonetilleke have agreed to come together to lend a hand to make the concert a milestone in music history.

Mariazelle often described in her early years as 'the little girl with a big voice and guitar higher than her' will be in the forefront singing her famous 'Kandy Lamissie' and a wide selection of favourites from both the Western and Oriental field, that are associated with her on stage not only in Sri Lanka but also abroad. In fact she has just returned after a successful concert tour in the Middle East to steer 'Sthri Music' to success.

Dalreen Suby who has never looked back since she worried her mother to get on stage in her early teens, is happy to be associated with this worthy cause. A leader of a music group over the years, Dalreen has enthraled her fans with her scintillating performances and her attractive stage presence and presentation has always been a major plus for her. A popular figure on concert stages abroad Dalreen will be performing both Western and Sinhala hits.

Shyamie and Yasmin Fonseka hail from a large musical family, well recognised in Sri Lanka. This perhaps is the first time they will be together on the same stage to delight the audiences with their vocal artistry. Shyamie and Yasmin each pursue a solo career today. They used to perform with leading groups on the music scene. Chandani Hettiarachchi who with her husband Chaminda are a successful duo today, working a busy schedule during the week. Besides her Western and Sinhala repertoire, Chandani's renditions of Hindi songs has drawn many a fan to her, and according to her never an evening goes without many requests for Hindi hit songs.

Joining the female singer brigade will be Drucille G. and Priya Goonetilleke who are now the front line singers for the popular band Pearl. Both Drucille and Priya are well recognised for their repertoire of country hits, popular evergreens and contemporary hits.

According to Mariazelle the songs selected by these artistes have been handpicked by them and will be songs which they usually do not perform on stage. She has graciously extended an invitation to the male of the species - Sohan Weerasinghe, Maxi Rozairo and Rajiv Sebastian - to join in on duets with the female singers. Musical backing will be provided by Sohan and the X'periments. Upekha Jayasekera and Kevin Nugara will choreograph dance acts for some of the songs that will be featured.
