Budget to zoom in on CoL, wages

by Don Asoka Wijewardena

This year's budget will be mainly on development and focus on generating more employment opportunities for the unemployed, aimed at reducing cost of living and wage increase, Finance Minister K.N. Choksy announced at a media briefing at his ministry yesterday.

The Minister said that the development programs the UNF Government had launched in the year 2002 will be further developed with emphasis on job creation. "We anticipate with confidence that in the next 8 to 10 months, Sri Lanka's economy will prosper to a level as it was in 1994. I am certain that it will enable all Lankans to share the country's resources with quality of life," noted the Minister.

According to the minister, several well-planned measures will be taken towards poverty alleviation which has become a stumbling-block to the development of the country. The Budget will be presented in Parliament on November 6, Wednesday.
