TRAVEL & TOURISM

Kandyan Reach - first star in 'Athugalpura'

by BEVERLEY JANSZ

Kandyan Reach, the first luxury hotel in Kurunegala, is a new milestone in the capital city of the North Western Province. It will bring back the old world charm of 'Athugalpura'. The 50-room luxury hotel has gone into operation with ten fully carpeted air conditioned and large rooms, offering all modern facilities to tourists, including TV, telephone, hot/cold water and room service.

Taking a nostalgic look back into the past, the city of Kurunegala has so much to offer to tourists, with many unexplored tourist attractions. Kandyan Reach will play a vital role in shaping the unexplored areas by effectively marketing Kurunegala as a tourist attraction.

The picturesque Kurunegala lake, the dramatic scenery of the elephant rock and other legendary rocks, Ridee Vihare, Meddegama Temple, Dambadeniya Raja Maha Viharaya and many more places of historic value will feature in the marketing aspect of Kandyan Reach Hotel undertaken by General Manager, Hector Jayawardena, a veteran hotelier with over 20 years experience, here and abroad.

Kandyan Reach has an immaculate lobby and a restaurant catering to Western, Eastern, Chinese, Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine, prepared by Executive Chef, Vijitha Kumara and his team of experienced cooks. Kumara has been in the hospitality industry for over 10 years having gained overseas experience too in the preparation of delicious food.

Kandyan Reach has a large and beautiful swimming pool. The hotel offers conference and seminar facilities corresponding to the requirements of the entire North Western Province.

Located along Kandy Road, Kurunegala, Kandyan Reach is a forum of opportunity for all NGOs, associations, sports clubs and other institutions to hold their workshops and seminars with all modern facilities offered by the hotel. The hotel has already become popular for large scale weddings, and other company outings. It has a well stocked bar and a large screen TV in the restaurant.

The hotel is attracting transit visitors too by introducing special lunch buffets. Most tour operators go for quality and service, and they are the key factors reaching the targeted market of the Kandyan Reach, General Manager, Hector Jayawardena said.
