ISO certification for luggage exporter ACE Luggage Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., the exporter of Olympia and other brands of travel-ware to USA, has received the ISO 9001:2000 accreditation from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI). It is the first Sri Lankan luggage manufacturer to be ISO 9001:2000 certified by SLSI. The company was incorporated in July 1999 as a Board of Investment project at the Dankotuwa Export Processing Zone. Capital investment of the project is over Rs. 100 million. Its parent company, Luggage America Inc. in California, has been in the business for 25 years. ACE Luggage has a fully equipped factory and stores complex in Dankotuwa. Fabrics and models of handle systems are imported. "We have state-of-the-art quality luggage manufacturing techniques and this is a significant milestone for us in our quality field," Vice President Thomas Lee explained. SLSI Director General and CEO C.D.R.A. Jayawardena said: "The new ISO 9001:2000 certification is a good foundation to build quality culture and continual improvement within a company. It helps companies which cater exclusively to the American market". ACE Luggage is 100 per cent owned by Chris Yu who is in the USA. Its main market is USA and the monthly production is worth one million US dollars. The Olympia brand, which is imported from ACE Luggage Lanka, accounts for seventy per cent of the American rolling backpack luggage market. The Directors of the company are Thomas Lee (Vice President), Kim and David Koo (Production Director). "Our consultant is Quality Trilogy at Battaramulla," Mr Lee said. |
