Deanna Singers to stage
another concert

Intensive rehearsals are on at Deanna's Singing School Kandy for a concert that will be staged in early 2003. Youthful Deanna Abeyratne who opened her school two years ago showcased her teenage 'Deanna Singers' in a debut performance at the Mahaweli Reach Hotel during the festive season in December last year.

The choir won the gold medal in the Guildhall Schools of Music, Speech and Drama held in Kandy, and also the All Island Award for Choral Singing. The choir added another award in the bag when they carried off the prize for the Best Performance from the Central Province. Fast on the heels of this success Deanna staged another concert which was well received in Kandy.

The choir 'Deanna Singers' is trained and conducted by pianist Deanna Abeyratne. The choirs repertoire ranges from light classical to pop songs in concert style, and the group comprises twenty five teenage members. Deanna Abeyratne the music teacher at Gateway International School (Kandy), has completed Grade 8 in pianoforte in ABRSM and in voice and Guildhall Schools of Music.
