Public Servant awarded compensation for the first time

The award of compensation to Mrs. R. M. Kamalawathie, a Nursing Officer attached to GH Kurunegala who became disabled infected with a Tuberculosis Germ while serving, was awarded compensation recently by Hon. P. Dayaratna, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Welfare. So far no compensation was awarded to a Public Servant who became totally disable or died with history of employment associated disease.

This was the first time that such a compensation was awarded to a Public Servant accordingly Cabinet approval has been received to award a sum of rupees One Lakh as compensation to this Officer, and to pay her a pension up to 55 years of age and to retire her thereafter. The relevant Nursing Officer who became disable expressed her sincere thanks to Hon. P. Dayaratna, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Welfare, Hon. Vajira Abeywardana, Minister of Public Administration and Ven. Muruttettuwe Ananda Thera, Chairman, Public Services Nurses' Union who intervened in the matter.

Muruttettuwe Ananda Thera, Chairman, PSNU, Mrs. Kamala, Nursing Officer who became disable and a number of Nursing Officers participated at the occasion.
