HelpAge Int'l confab from Nov. 26 by Deepal Warnakulasuriya Sri Lanka will host the HelpAge International Asia-Pacific Regional Conference from November 26-29 at the Galle Face Hotel. The confab will focus on issues related to older persons and also plan activities for the next 12 months. HelpAge members from 22 countries in the Asia Pacific region, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Lao, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the United Kingdom. HelpAge Executive Director N.W.E. Wijewantha told the 'Sunday Observer' that this will be the first International Confab on ageing in Sri Lanka. It will give an opportunity to discuss, exchange views and expertise to find appropriate solutions to improve the quality of life of the ageing population in Sri Lanka. The opening ceremony and the annual general meeting of the HelpAge International will be held at 9.00 am at the Galle Face Hotel where Health, Nutrition and Social Services Minister P. Dayaratne will be the chief guest. Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Samaraweera will be the guest of honour. |
