Maneesha Madushani two hat-tricks help Seethadevi BV under 13 to two wins

A hat - trick in two matches by Seethadevi Balika Vidyalaya's centre forward Maneesha Madhushani was the highlight of the first days play of the Kandy District Schools boys and girls under 13 hockey tournament organised by the Kandy District Schools Hockey Association which began at Police Grounds, Kandy yesterday. The matches will be continued today at 8.30 a.m.

Before the teams bullied off, there was an impressive opening ceremony with the hoisting of the flags by the chief guest Chief Manager of the Super Grade Branch of Banks of Ceylon, Kandy Mr. A. B. Basnayake and the guest of honour - President of Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association Mrs. Hema Kumari Wijetunga while the Western Band of St. Anthony's Girls College, Kandy was in attendance.

Eleven teams from boys schools seven girls schools have entered this tournament. Bright International School which had entered this tournament did not make their appearance on the opening day. Three schools made their debut in hockey in this tournament - namely Vivekananda Tamil School, Hindu Senior School and Sri Rahula College boys team. Vivekananda Tamil Vidyalaya especially made an impressive debut holding Vidyartha College to a scoreless draw and went down narrowly 1 - 2 to the more fancied Trinity College.

In the tournament for girls, Seethadevi BV made a big impact beating Gothami Balika Vidyalaya 5 - 0 Goal scorers being Maneesha Madhushani 3 (including a hat - trick), Pradeepa Nandasena (1) and Harshani Srimali (1). In the other match Seethadevi BV beat Mahamaya Girls College 3 - 0. Centre forward Maneesha Madhushani was once again in cracking form slamming a hat - trick - her second for the day. Pushpadana Girls College too impressed by defeating Wattegama BV 5- 0, Dayani Manatunga (3), Wasana Sewwandi (1) and Ghandi Rajapakse (1) were the goal scorers.
