Navy, Police officers on the mat by Ramani Kangaraarachchi Colombo Majistrate yesterday remanded a Navy officer and a Police officer for having allegedly accepted bribes from a group of Sri Lankans who had illegally trying to migrate to Italy in September this year. The migrants were deported by the Egyptian government to Sri Lanka on Sep 27. The 65 deportees in a statement to the CID have said that they bribed the Police officer, prior to their departure and to the Navy officer while on the high seas off Dondra Head. In their statement they have also said a caravan vehicle with, cash amounting to several lakhs of rupees and other valuables were given as bribe to the two in their effort to travel to Italy, unhindered. |
