Unwinding ourselves

Way to go..... The sunday Observer staff can sure shake a leg

After a lapse of six years Sunday Observer staffers got together to unwind themselves - this time round on the banks of the Kelani at Kitulgala recently.

The prospect of an enjoyable day roused the taut and weary team (that goes to bed late on a Saturday) to board a Hemtours luxury bus early on Sunday.

A comfortable drive took the young and old, men and women across Boralugoda country for a bumper breakfast at Hanwella Rest House, courtesy Hotels Corporation. The warming up crowd was launched for the day's fun and frolic.

Say Cheese.... Posing for posterity

The singing and drumming on board kept up the tempo on a cool, mildly sunlit day, driven expertly up the meandering way to the high point where Kitulgala Rest House stands.

The gurgling waters down below were inviting enough for some to take a dip while cameras clicked and others boated into the coves.

Wet, Wet, Wet.... Drippy fun the Kithulgala way

That done, hot and soft options kept spirits up in the pre-lunch session. 'La Lankans' provided lively music for the rest to flaunt their talents in singing and dancing to win prizes. 'Musical chairs' was treacherous as ever but a winner was picked to round off the events.

The late buffet lunch (Courtesy Hotels Corporation) was a welcome spread to the sober and high-spirited.

Winners take it all... not quite

The party set off homeward bound before the shadows lengthened finding time for tea at 'Ambalama' enroute. Bridges were built and not blown up as the day wore on in thin rain. Spirits were not dampened though. It was a welcome respite for all who were content and elated that a tradition had been revived.
