Lankan businessmen in Maldives hail PM's peace efforts Sri Lankan businessmen in the Maldives have praised Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for preventing the wanton loss of life caused by the ethnic war and creating an environment in which all communities could live peacefully without fear. Premier Wickremesinghe said so at a meeting with businessmen in Male recently, following talks held with Maldivian President Abdul Gayoum during his official visit to that country. The Prime Minister also said that the extremist acts of politicians led the country towards destruction and the responsibility of pulling the country out of this abyss had fallen on his shoulders, for which the support of all Sri Lankans was vital. Among those present included some businessmen who had left Sri Lanka and settled down in the Maldives due to the unfavourable atmosphere that prevailed here. Those businessmen were now willing to return to Sri Lanka since there was peace in the country. They told the Prime Minister that they were grateful to him for reviving the nation. (Lankapuvath) |
