Navodha Lanka for social cause "Navodha Lanka" Trade fair and Exhibition being currently held at the Parliament Grounds, Kotte with the aim of helping the poor attend to their medical expenses has been drawing huge crowds, with the official estimating the average daily attendance at around 33,000. The event which is expected to be held in several parts of the country and which is sponsored by the Associated Newspapers Ceylon Ltd (ANCL) is organised by the Association of Ministers' Secretaries with the participation of 62 ministries. According to Sudath Chandrasekera, Private Secretary to the Prime Minister and President of the Ministers' Secretaries Association, the exhibition has been organised with twin objectives of helping down-trodden people in the country and educating the public about the services rendered by each Ministry. "This event is a combination of legal aid campaigns, community programmes and educational programmes on information technology, health," he said. The exhibition also includes many entertainment activities including fireworks displays, lottery draws, amusement parks and food stalls, cultural, fashion, music and magic shows. One of the special highlights will be military displays by the Sri Lanka Army. According to Sudath Chandrasekera there are about 135 stalls, of which 35 are run by government departments including the Sri Lanka Narcotics Bureau, Airport and Aviation Services. The next stop for "Navodha Lanka" industrial exhibition and carnival, will be Mahiyangana from April 2-6 next year. |
