An exhibition with a difference

by Arundathie Abeysinghe

'Navodha Lanka' Industrial exhibition and carnival which was held at Parliament Grounds, Kotte has given a new outlook to the Sri Lankan exhibition culture.

Sponsored by Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, the exhibition which is scheduled to be held in several parts of the country was organised by the Association of Ministers' Secretaries (with the participation of 62 ministries.) According to Sudath Chandrasekera Private Secretary to the Prime Minister and President of the Ministers' Secretaries Association the exhibition had been organised with twin objectives of helping the down-trodden to attend to their medical expenses and to educate the public about the services rendered by each Ministry.

The event which had a combination of legal aid campaigns, community programmes and educational programmes on information technology and health also included many entertainment activities including fireworks displays, lottery draws, amusement parks and food stalls, cultural, fashion, music and magic shows .

There were also daily military displays by the Sri Lanka Army.

There were about 135 stalls of which 35 were managed by government departments and included stalls run by the Sri Lanka Narcotics Bureau, Airport and Aviation Services.

"Navodha Lanka" industrial exhibition and carnival will be held from April 2-6 at Mahiyangana.
