Hotels: all set to face tourist influx by BEVERLEY JANSZ Not only city hotels, but also hotels in the country are gearing up for the influx of tourists expected to visit Sri Lanka this year. Chairman, Ceylon Hotels Corporation (CHC) Bodhisiri Ranasinghe said in an interview with the Sunday Observer. CHC which owns over 20 star-class hotels, motels rest houses, in scenic locations has already taken steps to refurbish all their properties to cater to the large number, following the Government's peace initiative. 'It is very refreshing to see that Sri Lanka's tourism industry is now blooming again and will reach its heights this year, Ranasinghe said. All city hotels too are undergoing refurbishments. 'We have done well last year compared to 2001, and expect to be very much better this year, General Manager, Ceylon Continental Hotel, Anil Jayemanne said. One of Sri Lanka's oldest 5-star hotels, Inter-Continental became Ceylon Continental two years ago, when veteran hotelier, Anil Jayemanne was put at the helm. 'We are now reaping the harvest' and Ceylon Continental has undergone a massive refurbishing to cater not only to the influx of tourists, but also toe cater to our business clientele from abroad. Another senior and veteran hotelier, Chandra Mohotti, General Manager, Galadari Hotel, was also very optimistic that this year is going to be one of the best Galadari ever saw since the outbreak of the ethnic war. "We are ready to cater to the large number of tourists expected not only from the West but also from India and Middle East," Mohotti said. With Sri Lanka gaining prominence as an attractive and safe tourist destination, she will be able to reap the dividends of peace with significant growth rates this year. Sri Lanka is targeting 500,000 tourist arrivals this year. |
