UK team to supervise bus companies arrive tomorrow

by Deepal Warnakulasuriya

A spokesman for the IBIS Sri Lanka's representatives said that a team of six experts from England and Scotland led by Project Director Ian Bulley and Robb Merrymann will arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow, Monday 6, to supervise the six companies before the British investor takes over the management and the 39 per cent of shares. The British experts will be here for ten days and will prepare a full report on the management, financial matters and the assets.

The deal will be finalised with the signing of an agreement on 15 January at the Transport Ministry premises to take over the six cluster companies, the spokesman said. He also said that they have already arranged to send a team of engineers, technicians and drivers for a training of three weeks to Singapore.

The spokesman said that IBIS had already given an assurance not to increase bus fares and predicted they were capable of making the cluster companies profitable with good management. He also said that Latec has the latest technology with the facilities to repair buses and a number of buses abandoned in over 50 depots will be repaired.
