At Arthur C. Clarke Institute : Goal of UNDP funded program to help Asian Region

by Deepal Warnakulasuriya

A regional training program on electronic systems design and its applications in the new ICT Domain was held recently at the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies with 11 participants from nine Asian countries. The program has been funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under its Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (TCDC) program.

Technologists attached to Government services from Thailand, Bhutan, Maldives, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka had participated in the full one-month training program which consisted of classroom work on theory and techniques mixed with laboratory classes and project work.

Director of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies Dr. S. Namasivayam said that the goal of this program was to develop the skills and capabilities of beneficiaries in the region and contribute to the realisation of various national poverty alleviation projects. He also said the TCDC program has benefited several countries since it began.

He further added that the Institute had been conducting this type of professional development courses for the past twelve years and that the Institute has the core-competence, modern equipment and library facilities for the benefit of participants.

Farid Ghulhan from Pakistan and a participant in the training program said that it would help them not only to make a contribution to their own countries but to help to preserve unity and peace in the region. Another participant from the Philippines, Alfredo Framco said that the first aim of the program is development in the region and then help to reach global peace and prosperity.
