Swashakthi Medura to open in Jaffna

STC General Trading will set up a branch of its self-employment support centre, Swashakthi Medura, in Jaffna soon.

The need for such a centre was highlighted during the recent visit of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake to Jaffna.

The Minister instructed STC officials to look for a suitable building and take the necessary steps to start the centre within the next few months.

"I hope that Swashakthi Medura would help rebuild the Jaffna economy, which was destroyed by the war, and provide more employment for youths," Karunanayake said.

The Swashakthi division of STC was started in 1989 to help the small industries sector and to create self-employment by providing high quality machinery and industrial equipment at reasonable prices.

The first Swashakthi Medura was opened in Colombo 02 in 1989, which offers a wide range of tools and equipment for industries such as motor maintenance and repair, carpentry and wood work, metal work, food processing, masonry, motors and measuring tools.
