Thala - a trilogy of the
 old and the new

Channa and Upuli Wijewardena two leading names in classical and fusion dance forms have these past months worked on creative ideas to take dance styles on to a different and higher level keeping in the traditional cultural styles.

Their skilful fusion was presented in Thala - a Festival Dance at the Lionel Wendt. The festival is a bridge between the earth and the heavens. The trilogy - Thala contains a 'Siddhartha Ballet' created for Sathya Sri Sai Baba's benefit on the occasion of International Wesak celebrations in India in 2000.

'Tharana' is a journey through Sri Lanka's 2500 years of history and the finale 'Future' is a composition of modern dance forms through traditional dance forms - a radical piece of fusion dance. Channa and Upuli who are now partners in the Foundation bearing their name have also performed extensively abroad to bolster Sri Lanka's international image through dance.
