HRCSL trilingual calendar

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has issued a wall Calendar introducing one of its major projects undertaken in collaboration with the European Commission.

In an introductory note published in the Calendar, the Commission states that the project titled 'Human Rights for All the Rights of Minorities in the Peace Process,' which addresses some of the root causes of conflict and violence in Sri Lankan Society, is aimed at creating a culture of tolerance and respect for diversity and difference.

This is the first time that HRCSL, set up in 1997, has brought out a trilingual Calendar of its own for the twin purpose of Human Rights education and public relations. Printed on 23 x 17.5 inches Art paper with the in off set process.

It has 12 calendar sheets in multi-colours and a 2 page Single colour fly-leaf offering a wealth of reading material in Sinhala, Tamil and English in addition to 12 photographs attractively presented to match a selected Human Rights theme for each month. The text of the fly-leaf and Calendar sheets cover a wide range of topics including introductory notes on the Mandate and current projects of the HRCSL, Fundamental Rights guaranteed by the Constitution, International HR Instruments, Minority Rights, Rights of Women, Children and Older Persons while highlighting issues such as Torture and Internally Displaced Persons.

It also highlights some quotations from Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, Mary Robinson and Chief Seatle, along with speeches of D. S. Senanayake and S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike made half a century go as Freedom dawned on Sri Lanka.

All Rights related days observed by the United Nations have been specially marked with the date pad of each month in addition to Public, Bank and Mercantile holidays.

The Calendar is being distributed among community-based institutions.

The HRCSL regrets that individual requests cannot be entertained as stocks are limited.
