'Soft' take over of cluster bus companies tomorrow by Deepal Warnakulasuriya IBIS of the United Kingdom will start a management familiarisation programme from tomorrow (January 20) with the six cluster bus companies before they take over the total management, of cluster companies. The final agreement to purchase the 39 percent shares of the six companies will be signed at the Transport Ministry premises on January 20 at 3.30 pm in the presence of officials of PERC and the Treasury, a spokesman of the IBIS Company said. He also revealed that the programme with a joint management will go on till February 12 and the IBIS will take over the total management on February 13 with the payment of 60 percent value to the government. The spokesman also assured that no retrenchment, no fare hike and any other benefits given to public will not be cancelled. He further said that they had already identified over 500 buses which could be put back on the road, after minor repairs and replacement of minor spare parts. And therefore, they will be in of need more drivers and conductors to meet the target. He also added that they are to handle with 17,000 employees attached to 56 depots of the six cluster companies and discussions between trade unions and the UK delegation were very cordial successful. "Comprehensive engineer, driver and technical training sessions have already been arranged in Singapore and the first team of trainees will leave in the second week of February", he added. |
