Army holiday complex at Thalladi

With the commencement of the peace process, families of soldiers living in the south will be able to spend their holidays in Mannar very soon. Arrangements have already been made by the Sri Lanka Army to build a holiday complex in Thalladi camp area.

"After a lapse of over 15 years, families of the soldiers have begun to visit Mannar in large numbers but they have no proper place to stay even overnight.

A grand trade fair "Mannaram Mela" with musical shows and many other recreational events have been organised to raise funds for this holiday resort estimated to cost approximately Rs 2 million. The work on the holiday complex is expected to be completed within three months.

A fishing village and ice factory at Pesalai, Murunkan Kovil, the abandoned Manu Viharaya built by the Army and two big refugee camps and few other historical places are among the places that attract visitors in the area.

"Mannaram Mela" organised with the assistance of the police and navy will be held today and tomorrow. (R.K.)
