41 young Lankan chess players in Chenai tourney

Forty one young chess players from the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre in Sri Lanka left for Chenai, India to participate in the 9th Solar Children's Open Chess Tournament from yesterday to January 20.

The tournament is conducted by Dharmakesari Solar K. S. Subramaniya Iyer Trust at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan Secondary School, T-Nagar, Chenai, India.

The tournament will be conducted in the age groups: under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 18 for both boys and girls. The contingent from Sri Lanka: Isipatana College - Akalanka Bandara Ranaweera (under 8), Srimal Sachinthana Wijesuriya (under 12), W. Malintha Chanaka Perera (under 14), Nishantha Withanage (under 18).

Royal College: K. Oshadhi Kottahachchy (under 10), Chirath Madurapperuma (under 10), Lakwin Chanuka Samaranayake, Yasith Hirimburegama, H. K. Banuka Manuhara Perera (all under 14), H. K. Ginoth Dilhara Perera (under 18).

Vidura College: Tesath Jayawardene (under 8).

Colombo International School: Shanil Savinda Wijesinghe (under 8) and Aneeshan Gananjeyan Tyagarajah (under 12).

Ananda College: Duleek Hasintha Wadanaby (under 10), Shanaka Udayanga Katugampala and W. G. Udesh Hirujith (both under 14).

Mahanama College: Warnaka Dias Pannilaratne (under 10), Chandimal Randunu Palihakkara and Dharsha Buddhike Bandara Rupasinghe (both under 12), P. A. Prasanjith Rasun Pinnawala, Kanishka Dias Pannilaratne, Hasindra Bandara Gunaratne and Indika Koralegedera (all under 14).

S. Thomas' Prep School, Kollupitiya: Uttunga Jayawardene and Kanchana Chaturanga Hettiarachchi (both under 12).

S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia: Shawn Alaron Abeynaike (under 12) and Nishan Shanaka Koralagamage (under 18).
