Roy Dias - a great desire to serve motherland

There are rumblings that worthy local talent is looked down on by our cricket authorities. Losing Rumesh Ratnayake as pace bowling coach over a pay dispute being costly at a time the ex-star had produced results. Ratnayake opted out to coach in Bangladesh for better wages. It left a bad taste in local cricketing corridors. Is only foreign expertise getting the fat purses?

While Ratnayake's exit has seen a resultant erosion in that department at national level, the return of ex-star, Roy Dias on holiday from Nepal has stirred the dust.

Dias, regarded as one of the best No.3 batsmen produced by Sri Lanka, left in disillusion after being replaced by Dav Whatmore as national coach some years ago.

Since, Dias has given hope to little known Nepal in raising its image in the cricketing arena.

His effectiveness seen by the conferring of a rare honour by the Nepalese King in recognition of the Lankan's services.

Back home, Dias has expressed a great desire to serve his motherland. Desire that one day he could team up with the likes of Rumesh and Arjuna Ranatunga to give back to country what they learnt.
