"Jekyll and Hyde"-
At the Wendt

"Jekyll & Hyde" explores the terrifying and tragic downfall of Dr. Henry Jekyll, who's experiments to find the biological basis for morality in mankind unleashes a demon in the form of his alter ego, Edward Hyde.

Jekyll & Hyde" a production of the Royal College Union will go on the Boards at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on January 31 and February 01, 02 and 03 at 7.00 p.m. This full length production of an adaptation from R. L. Stevenson's classic novel is written and directed by Thushara Hettihamu, a playwright, director and actor of many plays here and abroad.

Royal College, Colombo has produced many successful plays in the recent past including "The Merchant of Venice", "Arsenic & Old Lace" and "The Jungle Book".

Most of the actors of the play's young yet talented and experienced cast are members of the winning Team of last year's prestigious Inter School Shakespeare Drama Competition.

"Jekyll & Hyde" explores the terrifying and tragic downfall of Dr. Henry Jekyll, who's experiments to find the biological basis for morality in mankind has unleashed a demon in the form of his alter ego, Edward Hyde.

The detective of the plot is Gabriel Utterson, who investigates the trampling of a little girl by the monster, the suicide of Jekyll's fiancee Miriam, the killing of her brother Mordecai and the mystery of a certain Claire Caine who falls into the claws of Edward Hyde.

Set in the fog-shrouded alleys and the palaces of the rich in Victorian London, this cocktail of mystery, horror, drama and black comedy would appeal to a wide audience both young and old.

The Royal College Union English Drama Committee, in association with the Old Royalists' Association of Dramatists and the English Drama Society of Royal College, is presenting the play to promote drama at college as well as to raise funds for drama and infrastructure development.

The Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, National Savings Bank and The Development Lotteries Board have agreed to co-sponsor the event while the electronic media sponsors are MTV and Yes FM. Box plan and tickets for the drama are available at the Wendt.
