Army's Meemanage wins racing event by PELHAM JURIANSZ Sri Lanka Army's Meemanage won the main event for racing cyclists at the National Development Lottery sponsored event for standard and racing cycles co-sponsored by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL) which began at Dambulla and ended at the Parliament Grounds yesterday. His total prize money was increased to Rs. 75,000 from Rs. 50,000. The winner of the race from Matara to Colombo, was Dinesh Feranando, a three-wheel driver. The other race from Balangoda to Parliament Grounds was won by 19-year-old Gayan Sanjeewa, the race starting at 12.03 and finishing at 4.30 p.m. Ajith Chamara of Army Wagoners won the second spot for the Balangoda race. The distance of the Matara to Colombo race was 169 kms and started at 12.02 p.m. There were 81 participants for the Dambulla to Colombo race for racing riders, which covered a distance of 200 km. The prize money for the two standard races, namely from Balangoda to Colombo and from Matara to Colombo, was increased from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 50,000. The winners Dambulla to Colombo:First place - Meemanage of Sri Lanka Army. Balangoda to Colombo: First place - Gayan Sanjeewa, Second place -Ajith Chamara (Army Wagoners).
