Bro. Nicholas' Trust Fund to award 100 scholarships

The Rev. Bro. Nicholas' Memorial Benevolent Association which was formed immediately after the death of Rev. Bro. Nicholas has now been converted to a legally constituted trust. The following have been appointed as trustees: K.G.M. Augustine Dias (J.P. Settler and Chairman), Rienzie Arsecularatne (P.C. Additional Solicitor-General), Gamini Edirisinghe (Managing Director - Edirisinghe Bros.), Roshan Motha (Chief Executive - GE Group of Companies), Bobby Adams (Company Chairman and Consultant), Rohan de Silva (Managing Director - McLarens (Pvt) Ltd.), Dennis de Rosayro (Chief Administrator - OKI International School), Reginald Rodrigo (Attorney-at-Law), Quintin de Silva (Chairman and Managing Director - Deepani Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd.), Ignatius Rodrigo (Chairman Tomson & Sons (Pvt) Ltd.), Vincent Gomez (Sales Manager - Preshamal Filters (Pvt) Ltd.

His Grace Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith, Adjunct Secretary, Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples and President Pontifical Mission Societies will function as the moderator.

The main objectives of the trust are: (a) To continue the social, welfare and other charitable activities undertaken by the late Rev. bro. Nicholas during his lifetime.

(b) To support and upgrade education and health care of under-privileged children particularly in the Colombo area.

On the first death anniversary of the Rev. Bro. Nicholas, 50 scholarships were awarded to 50 schoolchildren. On his 2nd death anniversary which falls on 29 January 2003, it is proposed to award 100 more scholarships to needy children. The commemorative functions will be held at De La Salle College on 29.01.2003 at 6.00 p.m. All are welcome.
