South Asian U.14 Tennis C'ship starts tomorrow

The South Asian Junior (under-14) Tennis Championship of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) starts tomorrow (Monday) at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Greenpath and is scheduled to end on February 6.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SLTA, Boshan Dayaratne, told the Sunday Observer that the ITF Development Officer, Suresh Menon, will conduct a training programs for all competitors on Monday and Tuesday, while the first tournament is from January 29 to February 3 and the second from February 3 to 6.

Forty players (both boys and girls) from seven countries (excluding Sri Lanka) will compete. They are from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldive Islands and Myanmar. Each country will field three boys and three girls, while Sri Lanka will field five boys and five girls. Also vying for honours will be a 10-member (five boys and five girls) from Central Asia known as the ITF Travelling Team.
