Seminar on jak cultivation

A seminar and workshop on "Scientific processing and cultivation of jak-fruit", will be held today, February 2, at the Wariyapola Divisional Secretariat. It is organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs in collaboration with the National Jak Development Project (NJDP) and is aimed at creating awareness among the general public on the use of jak as a supplementary food.

Lectures and demonstrations will be held on scientific cultivation of jak-fruit, dehydration of jak and preparation of certain rare delicacies with jak-latex and tender jak leaves. D.P. Munaweera, Director, Upper Watershed Management Project, Priyadarshana Saman Kumara, President, Parisara Mithuro and officers of Weerya Seva Sansadaya of Rambukkana will be the resource persons.

Minister of Women's Affairs, Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayake will be the chief guest. Thilakaratne Kuruwita Bandara, Silumina Editor and Nihal P. Abeysinghe, NJDP Co-ordinating Secretary, will also grace the event. NJDP, a project initiated by Silumina, Janasetha is sponsored by Sevana Lotteries.
