RCGC's medal tourney the celltel way One hundred and seventy five golfers are expected to participate in the Celltel sponsored monthly medal tournament to be conducted on February 8. It is the penultimate tournament of the RCGC's 2002-3 calendar, called the Grand Prix. Handsome trophies and attractive prizes will be given to the winners. RCGC Captain, Lalith Ramanayake speaking at the press conference at the RCGC said that this tournament will not be conducted on a Stableford system. The RCGC, which is the second oldest golfing club outside the United Kingdom, will host the tournament. The tournament will be conducted in four divisions, with Division A comprising players whose handicaps range from 0 to 9. Division B is for handicaps of 10 to 18, Division C for handicaps of 19 to 28, while Division D accommodates seniors over 65. The sponsor, Celltel will provide a trophy to the winner (Best Gross Score), and also reward the winner and two runners-up in each division. Three other trophies will be on offer for the longest drive (8th hole), closest to the pin (9th hole) and hole-in-one (16th hole). A special award is also to be made for the lowest gross score among Celltel users competing in the tournament. Scores made would be added on to the RCGC's Grand Prix points table. With only the February and March tournaments to be worked out, the top contenders for the Grand Prix are: Gross score - Alain Gyi (2,580), Mithun Nandasena (1,660) and Lalin Senadhira (1607). Nett score - Mithun Nandasena (1,365), Alain Gyi (1,096) and Sanjaya Gunawardene (996). |
