Priyantha and Lalin take top honours An invitee Priyantha Kumara and Lalin Samawickrama won the top awards - Col. Henry Steele Olcott Challenge Trophy and Ananda Challenge Trophy at the Old Anandians Golf Tournament played at the Victoria Golf Club in Kandy. This is the inaugural year that these two tournaments were held and it became a reality due to the efforts of two active old boys who play at Victoria - Primal Wijayanayake and Rohan de Silva.There were around 60 players in the Golf tournaments, with 27 old Anandians and invitees in the Stableford Competition. Priyantha Kumara is comparatively a novice at gold having been with the sport for about a year, but his keeness carried him through to win with 40 points, while the runner-up was Mohan Ratnayake with 39 points. The Ananda Challenge Trophy was confined to Old Anandians only and there was good fun and also good golf played. While Lalin Samarawickrama won this tourney, he had a close call from Nimal Wettimuny - the runner-up. The winners of the Sectional awards were: Longest drive: Navin de Silva, Nearest to the Pin: Bandula Weerasinghe, Ladies winner: Manori Jayakody, Most Anandian: Baboo Wickremaratne, Most Improved Golfer: Shervin Arsekularatne. |
